Concrete workshop

The aim of this workshop was to play around with concrete, to manipulate the material physically.
1. Plaster workshop: In that part of the workshop, we have mixed two groups of students who had different ideas. Some wanted to work with an arch structure, while the other were interested with the pinched system. They combine them, in order to create a new third one, the plaster model shows the result. It is also a study case before doing another model, in real concrete that time. Small scale to see how the material reacts, then interpolation in full scale.
2. Concrete workshop: After the experiments, it is the right time to try the full-scale concrete model. This final model was a way for us to test the structural limit of a thin layer of concrete, acting as a dome. The possibility of good-looking for the sharp details were unexpected. The mold is made out of two sheets of plastic fabric, sewn together using a sewing machine. Some screws and nuts have been added, creating tension nodes, as visible in the next pictures.
